The wait is over now. Just wait for a few days and, yes, you will be able to send money to your friends and family through your favorite messaging app, WhatsApp, very soon. The much awaited online WhatsApp UPI-based payment feature has been seen in the beta version of the Facebook owned WhatsApp Android app released this week.
This WhatsApp UPI payment feature was already in rumors from last month when WhatsApp had initiated discussion with NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) to implement this feature in the app to allow its users to make an online payment via UPI (United Payments Interface).
WhatsApp UPI Payments Integration:
According to the WABetaInfo Blog, WhatsApp has a separate page for the WhatsApp UPI payments in its Android beta app version 2.17.285, but it is hidden currently. Also, this blog has shared a picture of this feature.
Looking at this picture, it is learned that WhatsApp user can transfer money from one bank to the other bank through the Whatsapp UPI-based payments. The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) requires your Aadhar identification number to work. With the use of the UPI, money can be transferred from one bank to another bank immediately, as the UPI operates on the IMPS protocol.
Many other popular messaging services such as WeChat and Hike Messenger have already implemented online payment service support. However, after the arrival of this support in WhatsApp, there will be an increase in digital payments in India. Let us tell you that this popular messaging app is used by more than 200 million people in India.
Last year, with the Demonetization move by Government of India, the number of mobile payment apps such as PayTM (the most popular app in India) and Mobikwik’s transactions and the number of user base increased rapidly. However, none of these apps’ active user base is equal to WhatsApp.
Interestingly, WhatsApp has now been preparing to challenge PayTM and mobile wallet app PayTM is also planning to launch the new messaging feature soon.
